Science and Technology

Vision:

Brynllywarch Hall School works on showing pupils the importance of Science and Technology in today’s modern world. We work with pupils to build on areas which have always been the drive-in change within society, underpinning innovation and impacting on everyone’s lives economically, culturally and environmentally. Therefore, Science and Technology will be increasingly relevant in the opportunities which our young people encounter and the life choices they make.

Science and Technology uses vast amounts of data which requires learners to be able to assess inputs critically, understand the basis of the information collected and present it in a factual format. This will enable them to make informed judgemental decisions which impact on their behaviour and values, in turn developing pupils to ask meaningful questions.

Science and technology are broken down into what matters statements which are…

Being curious and searching for answers is essential to understanding and predicting phenomena

  • Design thinking and engineering offer technical and creative ways to meet society’s needs and wants
  • The world around us is full of living things which depend on each other for survival
  • Matter and they way it behaves defines our universe and shape our lives
  • Forces and energy provide a foundation for understanding our universe
  • Computation is the foundation of our digital world

These what matters statements further link into the 4 main purposes, where the disciplines of biology, chemistry, computer science, design and technology and physics will all be delivered to enhance our pupil’s knowledge and understanding of the local area and world.

Pupils here at Brynllywarch become ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world, through carrying out robust and consistent evaluations of scientific and technological evidence allowing them to make informed decisions about their future and their future actions.

Pupils here at Brynllywarch also become healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society where they are informed by knowledge about their bodies and the ecosystems around them along with how the development of technological innovations can support them in the improvements of their health and lifestyle.

Brynllywarch also develops pupils so that they become ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives and engages pupils with scientific and technological changes happening both within the local area and the world  allowing pupils to gain a deep understanding and knowledge through experiencing matters in science and technology which can help pupils at Brynllywarch live independent and fulfilling lives which allows them to contribute to society and culture in a vast variety of different ways

The final purpose within the Science and Technology area is that Brynllywarch develops learner who are enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work, pupils who will embrace challenges, pupils are encouraged to take risks to innovate, evaluate and learn to develop solutions. All of this allows for pupils to become more resilient and purposeful across all areas of their learning and experience.
