School Ski Trip 2023 to Serre Chevalier

In March, we took 8 learners from across the school to Serre Chevalier, a major ski resort in South Eastern France, near the Italian border. Learners and staff flew from Birmingham airport on 11th March and set off for their ski adventure. The learners we greeted by their two ski instructors, Eric and Corrine who were excellent and played a vital role in ensuring that our learners were progressing well out on the slopes.

Our learners had 4 hours skiing everyday with their ski instructors, with some wanting to ski for longer and going off with school staff for another blast down the mountain before the ski lifts closed. Our instructors were great and really took into account the needs of our learners and successfully had every skier skiing to a good standard by the end of the week.

Whilst on the slopes, all of our learners conquered the mountain and were able to experience the incredible views and the picturesque landscapes that France had to offer, all before experiencing the thrill of skiing down the mountain in the sunshine on the fresh snow. During the evenings, the learners had some excellent activities to enjoy from winter sports to roasting marshmallows on the fire.

It was fantastic to watch the learners progress with their skiing and demonstrate their perseverance and determination, not giving up when it got difficult and truly reaping the reward at the end. Learners also gained independence, with lots of learners being away from parents for the first time and really had the chance to experience flying and some of the French culture.

The experience was brilliant, and the learners all returned with big smiles. An experience of a lifetime.
